Truman Speech

This was a typographic exercise I did a long time ago in AfterEffects. I just now went back and fix it up a bit to put on my youtube channel.

Request #3

Just for the record, I'm starting to worry what this blog is turning into. Or maybe I'm just starting to wonder who my friends are...

Request #2

Snooty Pterodactyl

This is Sarah's second request. She had other ones, but like a 12-year-old boy they mostly included dicks...so I don't think I'm going to get around to those anytime soon.

Monster Hill #1

Eat Your Greens

I was looking in one of my old sketch books and found a series of monsters for an animation that never got off the ground. Anyways they were so cute I thought I'd clean them up and post them as a series.

Request #1

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah. Oh, man. I did this one for Sarah awhile ago. I have a wacom tablet now and am going to redo it, but I just needed this to see the light of day.

Sewing Project: Apron!

After I reupholstered my antique chairs I had a little fabric left and decided to make an apron. It's hand sewn while watching Victorian Farm a historical BBC documentary TV series.

Sketchbook Fun #2

Heartbreak Road

Giving Love

Just some fun illustrations I finally got around to finishing. They were sketched in pencil, colored in with color pencil and cleaned up with photoshop. They were inspired by my friend Sarah.

Panda Cakes!

This Monday my sister and I decided to make these cute little guys. They're vanilla cake and vanilla icing with Oreo crumble. Yum! :)

The recipe is from the cookbook "Hello, Cupcake!".

New Vintage Beauty Lounge

Right before I left Portland I decided to treat myself and get a new haircut. I stayed around my neighborhood and went to New Vintage Beauty Lounge on Mississippi St. (Portland, OR). They were fantastic! It's super laid back, but really professional.

I've had long hair for awhile and was thinking of changing to a short cut like one of these.

I was really happy with the way it turned out and Sadie (my hair dresser) was great. She has a really dry sense of humor. :)

Sadie's Card.

Normally I wouldn't write about something like this, but Sadie is so great! She was also the one who gave me bangs (in the first picture).

Color Study / Lounge

I finally got around to finishing this illustration from a class called Drawing Media with Dick Varney. This piece has been sitting in my closet for awhile. It's oil paint on illustration board. I put down a base color of orange then using masking tape sectioned off areas to rub on oil paint with a paper towel.

What is it with cats and boxes??

No matter how my cat sits, she always looks like an old man.

California Painting

Like I said in the last post, I got the opportunity to stay in California for a month. The colors were just extraordinary and really inspiring. It made be get off my butt and do my first painting in a LONG time. I became obsessed with this funny plant that grew outside my window on the sea cliffs...

This is how the painting turned out. I forgot how much I loved to do things like this and wonder why it's taken me so long.

And here it is in it's natural habitat. :)

California Color

For the last two weeks of June and the first two of July I spent my time in Carmel, CA. Every morning I woke up to an amazing landscape. The light could transform everything in a matter of minutes. Every hour felt different with stunning colors that the camera just doesn't really capture. All these pictures are taken within feet of each other, just at different points in the day.

Re-Upholstered My Chairs

I've been meaning to post this for awhile, but keep forgetting. When I was looking around for new furniture in Portland I can across Lounge Lizard Vintage Furniture. They were really great and I found a table and chair set I really loved. Except for the fabric which looked like this...

After I took off the roses, layer after layer of fabric just kept coming off. It looked like the oldest was probably from the 50's. It was like pealing back time and I really wish I would have thought to take a picture of all the different fabrics all lined up. *Sigh*, oh well. At least I can show how the chairs look now!

Ryan J. Woodward

Thought of You from Ryan J Woodward on Vimeo.

Ryan J. Wood is an amazing artist whose work I keep coming across. During a trip to Honolulu last year I went to a play called the "Ha- Breath of Life". It was a multimedia performance with great animation playing to help narrate the stories of the main characters on stage. At the time I had really wished I'd known who the artist was and I just found them! Not only did he do "Ha", but it looks like Ryan has had his hands in all kinds of awesome cookie jars! I just wanted to share one of my favorites from his Vimeo page.
